Sleeping with my dog
I am not a huge fan of letting my dog sleep with us at night, but sometimes if I am not feeling good or want to take a nap, I let her onto the bed. In the mornings, whom ever gets up first, wakes the other by letting the dog into the bedroom. Now it is usually me letting Kai wake my husband. She grabs his hand or sticks her nose under the blankets where he hides. Today I did not have to go to work, so I decided to sleep in a bit. My husband, decided to let the dog in the room, tit for tat. Kai found me gave me morning kisses and then settled herself in the crook of my knees and went to sleep. I guess it backfired for Jim, he came to say goodbye an hour later. So much for a wake up call.

snow fetch
This is a lively game and gives Kai much exercise. After trying to take her on a walk and realizing that I was going to have a potential fall, I decided to cut our walk short. When I came home I tossed Kai a snowball, she would run to find the snowball slide in the snow and completely cover the snow ball. Then she would stick her nose in the snow trying to locate the ball. Impossible, so when she came up for air, I had another snowball prepared. Repeat, repeat repeat. She was always so excited to see that I had the ball. She would come running back to me and try to anticipate where I was going to throw it. Then off again, slide, no snowball. So once I just threw it at her feet, where she tried to pick it up and ended up eating it. She loves the snow and is currently outside playing in it. She will come in when her feet need warming. She always does.

Warm Winter Weather
What is better than 60+ degrees in the middle on February-nothing. Kai is outside just having a wonderful time. She has not been in all day. Friday is going to get colder so she will be stuck inside once again. The only problem with her being outside is barking every time she sees a dog walk by. We have many dogs in our neighborhood and on a day such as this, lots of walkers. Why am I inside? I am trying to catch up on housework. Kai is not happy because I have not gone out and thrown a ball with her all day, but she has only come in once to look at me with her big brown eyes. I love that she loves being outside.
She had a special treat this weekend, my kids came home to celebrate their dad's birthday. We decided to watch a movie at home and Kai sat right between my kids. She usually does not do that, but she was extremely happy to see them. At first she barked and barked, when they came in the door. She is really good with intruder alerts. Then the barking got less and less as she caught their scent and realized who it was. Then she was all puppy jumping, cuddling and giving kisses. It made me happy too, knowing that she is such a loving dog. I also loves that she barks when someone unannounced comes in the back door. She did this once while I was in my bedroom and when I came out my backdoor was open. I am glad she was home and barking that time.

No long puppy dog tales
My Kai has kind of settled into a pattern, now that I am working. She gets up meanders around when I am getting ready, eats breakfast and waits for my husband to get up. Depending on the temperature, she is either inside or outside. She loves being inside and so far has not destroyed anything. We do keep her in the kitchen with plenty of room. If she is outside she greets me by the garage and does her happy dance. Then she runs back and forth from the kitchen door to the fence, she knows it is walk time. She is an eager pup and I am glad she is small because she wants to rush down the sidewalk. I have been pulled off my feet several times, but managed to maintain balance. Then at after our walk or in the evening, she snuggles up next to me and sleeps. I miss her during the day and can't wait to get home to this loving pup. If I do not play with her or walk her then I need to keep my door closed or she will find socks and run around the house with them.

Subbing
So if you substitute teach, you may find things are not as you placed them. Well, actually Kai waits until I come home to be Ms. Brat. During the day she must sleep, because if there is a tissue box handy that is what she will shred to pulp. Also, she likes to find socks and destroy them. That all happens when I walk in the door and do not take her out on a walk.I am not sure if she stores the socks somewhere I have not found her cache, but she gets them out and they are the perfect match for my missing socks. I do not dare throw a sock away because she has stolen the other sock. Today it is cold and rainy, not a good time for after school walk. I am waiting for destruction to begin.

Second Christmas
This is the second Christmas with our wonderful rescue Kai. She did not try to eat the lights this year or the ornaments, though she did nose a few. She also liked to sleep under the tree. Her first present this year came from the dog up the street. Lexi is part beagle and I am not sure what else, but she is a puppy. She passes the gate all the time and wants to play with Kai, but the owners are nervous because Kai growls when Lexi jumps on her face. Anyway, she gave Kai some treats and a picture of herself. Kai wrote a thank you and gave Lexi some treats as well. I thought it was a cute idea.
Before Christmas day we were visited by relatives who came with two children that loved on Kai. By the time they left Miss Kai was exhausted and laid about the house all Christmas Eve, not even bugging us when we ate dinner. A very tired girl from playing with kids for two days. I am not sure but I think she was worried about all the activity around the house, she likes her down time.
Christmas morning brought presents once again for Kai, some chewies and a stuffed gingerbread toy, which she laid with on the chair. Once again she was excited about the days events, helping us open presents, chewing up her sticks and running around the back yard. Her stuffed gingerbread man lasted until today without her pulling out the squeaky part of the toy. Now the stuffing is sticking out of the belly and I am sure by the end of the week it will look like it has snowed fluff all over the house. It has been a very Merry Christmas indeed.

MY shadow
Kai has been my little shadow the last few days. I have been sick with a lovingly call the creeping crud. It started with a throat ache that the doctor said was one of the worst he has seen in redness. Then it crept up to my nose and head. Kai has followed me around laying down with me every time I do and getting up and checking me out every time I sneeze, blow my nose or just cough. I have been waiting for her to put her paw on my forehead to check for a fever. Anyway, now that my husband is home for the weekend, she has been following him around, more lively than her sick momma, plus he has been cooking. Go where the food is.
